Wednesday 26 April, 7.15pm to 9.15pm - The Hellenic Centre.
This year’s celebration features Marina Deligianni (vocals), Spyros Bolovinis (bouzouki) and Maria Tsirodimitri (guitar) on a musical jouney to the Anatolian taverns of Smyrna of the early 20th century with melodies that reflect the musical influence of Smyrna’s Turkish, Armenian and Jewish population.
In 1922 the refugees from Smyrna brought to Greece their musical tradition which took over the Athenian cafés aman and influenced Greek music. Let’s meet in a cozy atmosphere, with wine and red eggs and rediscover together the joy and verve of yesterday’s beloved songs.
Tickets £10, Hellenic Centre Members £8; price includes a glass of wine. Bookings on 020 7487 5060 or https://hcsongsofsmyrna.eventbrite.co.uk.
Organised by the Hellenic Centre.
